The pads are made of an interesting material, very soft, like cotton. They exfoliate and cleanse very well, without causing irritation. I couldn't find any instructions on whether you should wash your face after using them. I don't wash them off, but I let the liquid dry, and it does a good job of minimizing the appearance of pores.
